Village Green: "Deborah Davis Ford Announces Run for South Orange Village President"

"On January 17, long-time South Orange Trustee Deborah Davis Ford announced that she will run for South Orange Village President — a move that has long been speculated upon by those who watch South Orange politics closely.

To a cheering crowd at Bunny’s Sports Bar in South Orange Village, Davis Ford outlined her history and her plans for the future before stating emphatically, “I, Deborah Davis Ford, announce my candidacy for the President of the Village of South Orange Township!”

In making the announcement, Davis Ford touted her listening skills, her interest in thoughtful shared services, her belief that there is a need for improvements in governance —as well as a need for a succession plan for department heads, and repeatedly invoked the town’s current motto, “Everybody Belongs Here.”

Davis Ford has served as a South Orange Village Trustee for 12 years. She works by day as the Clerk to the Board of the Essex County Chosen Freeholders.

South Orange’s Municipal Election will be held on May 14, 2019. Up for election: The offices of Village President and 3 or 6 Board of Trustees positions. Current Village President Sheena Collum reports that she is running for re-election. Davis Ford’s previous running mate Mark Rosner announced that he is not seeking re-election as Trustee. Trustee Howard Levison told Village Green he has not yet decided whether or not he will seek re-election.

Petitions for the South Orange Municipal Election are available for pick up in the Village Clerk’s Office on the 3rd floor of 76 South Orange Avenue. The deadline to file Petitions with the Village Clerk is March 11, 2019. Contact the Clerk’s Office at 973-378-7715 (x. 1)."
